编者按: The ISACA现在 blog is featuring a series this year profiling ISACA professionals who are in pursuit of 数字的信任. Today, we profile 是克利夫特, a cybersecurity program manager at Woodard & 伦. For more 数字的信任 member stories and resources from ISACA, visit fasa.ma242.com/digital-trust.

是的, 是克利夫特 has a collection of more than 80 vintage sewing machines. 是的, there was a year in which she spent 30 weekends a year traveling to participate in historical re-enactments – most notably in character as an 18th 世纪的外科医生. 是的,她经常收养狗. 是的, she finds time for her many hobbies despite a demanding role as the lone dedicated cybersecurity professional for her company.

“我不会半途而废,”克利夫特说. “They call me a force of nature in footie pajamas because I get very giddy and kid-like when I’m learning something new, but I’m also very much a force of nature because I don’t do anything half. I get into greyhound adoption, and I don’t just adopt one, I adopt four. 我的被子, 我用手做, 然后我就不只有一台缝纫机了, I end up with a massive collection of sewing machines. I put both feet in whenever I do something because life is too short to not.”

克利夫特, 居住在明尼苏达州的ISACA成员, 美国, 她也将这种心态运用到她的职业生涯中. 她在传播这个概念 数字的信任 在她的公司伍达德 & 伦, a water management and civil engineering company at which she serves as cybersecurity program manager. Focusing on cyber risk is a relatively new emphasis for the company, and she is working to gain buy-in and support across the organization – something she considers a common mission throughout the ISACA professional community.

“I think all of us have a duty to the security community as a whole, 对我们的公司, in engaging in this effort that security can be a partnership and it doesn’t have to be ‘us against them’,克利夫说。. 在这样做的过程中, all of the roles that play into the ISACA community – whether it’s an auditor, 无论是风险管理者, whether it’s a security manager or a controls person – we all have to have a level of integrity that stands up and says we have a role to play, 但这就是我们正在做的事情,以及为什么它很重要, and here’s where we can meet in the middle and provide that support if you’re not compliant or you have a risk, 帮助你. 我们希望成为指导原则.”

克利夫特拥有三项ISACA认证, which she considers valuable “because you have to understand the 为什么 在你做之前 如何.她说。 危机强化的风险管理专业知识 is important in underscoring the potential impact of her daily work.

她在伍德达德的众多职责之一 & 伦, she helps to implement monitoring and emergency response policies, 评估供应链风险, and coordinates extensively with the IT and legal functions – a range of activities she believes is preparing her well to eventually become a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), 未来的职业目标. As something of a one-person cybersecurity department, she has a great vantage point of 如何 the 数字的信任 professions come together.

“Having that title (of CISO) and actually having a budget and a staff to really build out and progress the organization is a goal of mine,克利夫说。. “I’m really loving being able to bring the entire program together and build it from base. It’s really cool to be able to combine things like doing a risk assessment on the environment using NIST, and then using that to start a compliance program and taking it to document for our annual audit. 这真的很酷,也是一件非常冒险的事情.”

有时也会让人筋疲力尽, which is 为什么 克利夫特 sometimes needs a restorative nap at the end of the workday, 还有她的四只灰狗. Greyhounds are known for their world-class speed when in their prime, 而是当他们退休的时候, 他们对此非常重视,克利夫说。. “They sleep 16 to 20 hours per day, so they are my office-mates.”

Just so long as they don’t shed on any of 克利夫特’s especially cherished quilting projects. 克利夫特’s 80-plus vintage sewing machines come from as far back as 1863, 而且都是在1968年之后. 她的拼布爱好可以追溯到大约十年前, and it soon evolved into a keen interest in old-fashioned sewing methods and equipment.

“I have machines that are 150 years old – I give them a little bit of sewing machine oil and I polish them up, and they run just like they came off the production line yesterday,克利夫说。. “And they will run for another 100 years if I take care of them. They’re so much more fault-tolerant (than modern ones), they’re not easy to break. 它也非常宁静. 当我踩踏板的时候, 它有一个节奏, 然后进入我的状态, and I’m enjoying every minute – and it’s not technology, 没有电. It’s just so peaceful, so it’s a very zen thing in a lot of ways.”

Even better is when 克利夫特 can take her s如何 on the road, finding community events in which she can share her passion with others – particularly young people.

“People aren’t learning 如何 to sew anymore,” she said. “But if I can take a hand-crank machine out and let a kid play with it and they get excited about learning 如何 to sew, 我可以有一个爱好. There’s this saying that says we’re only one generation away from most crafts being extinct. I’m keeping these generations going as much as I can.”
